An honest limitation
VL does not suppress infrared. The manufacturer's 250–2500 nm measurement curve shows that reflectance is at its lowest around 550–700 nm and rises steeply after that – not gradually, but within a few tens of nanometres. In practice this means that near a red laser, red LED lighting or the NIR boundary, VL fails. The manufacturer also notes that when photographed with a camera sensitive across a wide wavelength range, VL may appear black with a reddish tint. If your application involves the NIR range, LiDAR or sensor development, choose IR Flock Sheet.

Because of the flocking, fine fibre dust can come loose from the material. Take care if cleanliness is an absolute priority or the material goes inside a precision instrument. Creases can be steamed out without touching the surface with an iron.

Frequently asked questions
How does VL differ from KIWAMI?
VL is more affordable and physically more durable (nylon pile), and you can touch it. KIWAMI is blacker (99.905 %). For most applications VL is more than enough; for maximum blackness choose KIWAMI.
Is an adhesive-backed version available?
Yes. Every size is available both without adhesive and with adhesive backing. The adhesive version attaches directly to a clean, smooth surface with no separate glue.
Is VL suitable for infrared applications?
No. VL has no properties that suppress infrared reflection. For IR, LiDAR and NIR use choose IR Flock Sheet.
Is there an unusable edge on the roll?
The corners have an unflocked area of about 20 mm with perforations. That area is not included in the 950 mm effective width – take it into account in your cutting plan.
